AMRA Race Classes and Divisions

RACE CLASSES

Sportsman 1:

White background, black numbers, no letters. This class is for AA, Expert (A), and Amateur (B) racers or riders who want to compete just for the fun without the pressure of the Championship classes. At the discretion of the Steward, a rider may compete in this class indefinitely. The Sportsman 1 class will ride the A/B course. This class receives no points. Trophies will be awarded for the top three (3) overall. No Divisions will be recognized.

Sportsman 2:

White background, black numbers, no letters. This is for first-time racers or riders who want to compete just for the fun, or to ride with a child or friend without the pressure of the higher classes. At the discretion of the Steward, a rider may compete in this class indefinitely. The Sportsman 2 class will ride the C course. This class receives no points. Trophies will be awarded for the top three (3) overall. No Divisions will be recognized.

Vintage Class:

White background, black numbers, no letters. This is for anyone who wants to attempt racing a vintage bike as described in sub-paragraph 1 below. Vintage bikes will be REQUIRED to go through normal Tech inspections at each event. Trophies will be awarded to the top 3 racers per event. Points will be awarded only for end of year championship in this class only-Not for overall C championship. Vintage bikes MUST be 1982 or older. They must have drum brakes front/rear and must be air cooled.

Novice (C Class):

Green backgrounds, white numbers & letters. This rider has minimal experience. Will race the full adult C course. The course is designed to be both fun and less technical, accommodating all skill levels.

 

Amateur (B Class):

Yellow backgrounds, black numbers & letters. Should have significant racing experience with moderate ability and endurance. Races the full adult A/B course, concurrent with Expert A and AA. Must have skill sets and control such that sharing the race course with Expert A and AA is safe for a B racer.

Expert (A Class):

Red backgrounds, white numbers & letters. This is the highest classification in the sport for desert riders. He or she is experienced, skillful, and has demonstrated exceptional riding ability. Should have extensive desert racing experience, ability, and endurance. Races full adult A/B course.

AA Cability:

Blue backgrounds, white numbers, no letters, top 10 from last year or prior Pro experience. Highest of all skill levels.

30. Vintage Class *ride C course, class points only
31. Sportsman 1 *ride A/B course, no points
32. Sportsman 2 *ride C course, no points

RACE DIVISION

 This is based on either age or bike displacement.

  • Youth (Y): 12-14+ years of age, races the full adult course with the C class

  • Open (P): Bike with displacement of 251cc or above

  • Up to 250cc (X): Bike with displacement of 201cc to 250cc

  • 30 + (V): Ages 30 and up, no displacement limit

  • 40+ (S): Ages 40 and up, no displacement limit

  • 50+ (M): Ages 50 and up, no displacement limit

  • 60 + (L): Ages 60 and up, no displacement limit

  • Women (W)
